From Wall Street To Soda Pop Caps and Sea Glass

wilton-artisansHow did this blog post come about on Wilton Artisans? Well, I went to an art fair in Old Saybrook, Connecticut recently and ran into Beth Crowell’s booth and it was love at first site.

Beth is from Wilton, Connecticut, thus the name of her company.

I saw her vintage soda pop caps from across a crowded craft show and I zeroed in. Beth takes vintage caps and makes rings, earrings, bracelets, and necklaces.

She had the idea to put resin behind the cap to puff it out, to make it dome-shaped which adds uniqueness to her designs. Who would think of that, right?  Some of the caps she’s using I haven’t seen in decades. She uses silver in her jewelry which shows off the caps nicely.

The club soda cap ring you see in the post I bought, had too reminded me of deco, and I’m all over that.

I told Beth when I met her she should come up with a Christmas ornament idea with the caps, she told me she would think about it, that  she and her Mom might work on that idea.

From Beth’s web you learn she was on Wall Street for nearly ten years and made a sharp turn after having two children. She she says she’s always had a passion for jewelry so she went head first into a new business, and she’s doing great, she’s only been in business since 2008.

Beth also loves working with sea glass, says it reminds her of spending time on New England beaches as a kid. You’ll love those pieces too. Oh, and she teaches art classes if you’re interested.

She sells her work on her Etsy site, which is great if you can’t find her set up at a craft fair like I did. She also has a blog which gives you even more information about her beginnings into the jewelry business.

Beth does custom orders too so don’t be afraid to contact her. You can do that by going to her email here: wiltonartisans@gmail.com

I can’t wait to see if she really does come up with some ornament ideas for Christmas, I bet they would sell like hotcakes.

Go get ’em, Beth!

P.S. Just heard from Beth and sketching is in the works for a bottle cap ornament. Stay tuned!
