Polish Happy Hour in Connecticut

DSCN0142-300x2251If you see these two coming, stop what you’re doing and talk to them, these young gals plan to set the world on fire, and their missions are well underway.

Magdalena Slysz of Farmington and Sara O’Leary of Bristol are best friends, joined at the hip, the ole “wherever she goes, I go” kind of dynamic duo.

Twenty-three and twenty-four years old, they know a lot more than most at their age. They are smart, kind, and philanthropic and are true to their Polish descent.

I know what you’re thinkin by now, O’Leary, Polish? Her Mom is Polish, Dad is Irish, okay that’s cleared up so we can move on.

Magdalena (Maggie) is the reigning Miss Polonia USA. Both have reigned as Miss Poland Connecticut. They are graduates of Central Connecticut State University with backgrounds in business. Maggie was a management major and Sara, International business and marketing. Both “mean” business in every sense of the word. Having a cup of coffee with them, I was blown away at what they know, and what they have, and will accomplish. These are the kind of young people that Connecticut needs to harness and nurture to move us into a brighter future.

Both speak fluent Polish and are turning up the heat on that with a newly-started event called Polish-American Happy Hour, Just a few have been held so far, but are already wildly popular. These events are just good-old fashioned networking events, and a chance if you want to flaunt your polish ethnicity, though everybody’s  invited. This of course was started in New Britain, Connecticut, a Polish stronghold, but they plan to take it around the state to different venues.

The founder of these networking events is Jacek Mikolajczyk of “Discover Photo,” a big shout out to him.

Suffice it to say you will be hearing a lot more from Maggie and Sara as a team and independently as they take on the world, I for one am so glad I met them. Go get ’em girls!
