You’ve Got The Cutest Little Baby Face

Jessica Higgins of New Milford, Connecticut, a former elementary school teacher, loves newborns so she’s made a business out of that love.

Higgins is a baby photographer, make that a newborn photographer. Her sweet spot is taking photos of babies between 6 and 9 days old, she says that stage is magical. She wishes she had taken of her own two children when they were that new to the world.  She says babies change so quickly and when you look back on their lives these photos are precious.

The pictures of newborns she’s been able to capture in those early days are amazing. She prefers to snap her photos as early as 8 in the morning after babies have been fed because they are satisfied and usually nap. Parents show up at her in-home studio with their precious bundles  and Higgins goes to work. She coddles the parents too, because she knows they are sleepy as well.

Because Higgins takes photos at the early stages of a child’s life, families grow with her business, they return time and time again for birthdays and holiday cards and family portraits.

Higgins loves to take photos of babies in very cozy surroundings and has a wardrobe room full of soft knitted and crocheted hats and such and blankets, so much so, that she almost has to add on to the house because her collection has grown so large. I was so taken with what she’s doing that I have made her a very soft knitted cable-stitched blanket for her collection, a place for her babies to snuggle into.

You know how you talk to folks and you can tell they’re passionate about what they’re doing, well that is Higgins, her face just lights up when she talks about the babies and the families who are clients. She loves her clients so much she even makes up specialized business cards with their actual children on them. Imagine that? You’ll see two examples of that in the photos below.

Higgins goes out of her way to take photos of children that will be memorable. What is her favorite photo to date? She will tell you all of them, but one shot she is especially fond of is the one up top in this post with the baby on a soft rug in a red wagon. Yep, pretty darn cute.
