Allison Ermogenis Paints on a Greek Island

10246277_10201894283264884_8306499153086291199_nLong story short, I went to the ancient Greek volcanic island of Santorini more than a decade ago on a business trip with my husband and never got over it. For me it is the most amazing place on the planet. I have been lucky enough to return over and over again and even when I’m not there I have photos of the island in my house, on my computer, the images of this sun-drenched place are amazing. Little white houses or canaves (caves) built into the side of the volcano, nothing like it in the world.

After connecting with an artist from the island through Facebook I made plans to meet Allison Ermogenis. In seeing her work, I had already ordered one of her beautiful painted table cloths and now I wanted to see for myself her work in her beautiful space.

Allison, an Australian, by way of England, is an artist who paints on canvas and anything else she can get her hands on depicting the island lifestyle. You will find Santorini sunsets and bright blue tables and chairs and poppies that bloom in the spring and the Aegean blue waters. The name of her business is Aegean Designs, you will find lots of information about her on her website. You can also find Allison on her Aegean Designs Facebook Page that’s where she talks to her customers. Not only is she talented, but amazingly fun and with her Aussie accent she is just charming. Now of course I have to figure out how to get her work seen in Connecticut. The Nutmeg state has many Greek Americans and folks who have visited the country and in particular the islands. The best way to do that is to get her here, I’ll work on that.

Allison and her family moved to Santorini from Melbourne, Australia about five years ago. They had visited the island for years and it finally got under their skin enough that they made the move permanently.

Allison’s studio is filled with inventory that she has created including beautiful jewelry. She invites world travelers to come and take art classes, right away I thought of a girl’s trip where we could all paint under the beautiful Bougainvillea as she does day after day. Allison told me she loves getting to her studio early in the morning during the summertime before the sun gets really hot so she has time to create before tourists come by. Summertime on this island lasts about 7 months.

Allison describes herself as a textile artist/designer  who lives and works on Santorini in the beautiful village of Oia. She creates beautiful hand painted linens and silks, paints on canvas and designs for Corporate customers.”

On this trip to Greece, Allison introduced us to the Santorini island lifestyle and to simple wonderful dining at a taverna where Greek music is played. Here is a snippet of what we saw and heard.

In my kitchen hangs one of Allison’s lovely paintings as well! I treasure it. I wake up every day and although I am in NY, just one glance at my beautiful painting and I am day dreaming that I am on Santorini. I’ve had a love affair with the island since I was 16 years old and first stepped foot on that magical little rock in the sea. Santorini is always in my heart. Every day!
