Books & Company Where Refills Are Free!

Linder Mooser is passionate about her like-new used book store in the Whitneyville section of Hamden, Connecticut called Books & Company. She’s been in business for 17 years and she’s bound and determined to see 18 and 19 and so on and so forth.  She loves the people that have come into her life through her business and her children grew up in the place and worked there, and so yes, it’s very sentimental to her and it will be to you too after you visit it.

Linda features high-quality pre-loved books, as she calls them, and they can be traded for credits toward book purchases.

Talk about a “feel-good” space, her place is wonderful, it’s filled with books and cards and jewelry which she makes, and all kinds of little gifts. There is a wonderful coffee shop in the place too called Legal Grounds where yes, the refills are free. I met a friend there the other day and we had a ball chatting and feeling like the place was our living room. Well done, Linda! Legal Grounds, the coffee shop, was opened up in 2007 by two female attorneys. It serves organic, fair-trade coffees and Harvey and Sons teas. To go with your cuppa joe are all kinds of pastries and muffins and bagels and on and on, you can have lunch there too.

Linda offers a cozy children’s room with all kinds of children’s books. Teachers buying for classrooms receive an additional ten percent off, where can you go to find that in this day and age. Linda is about neighbor helping neighbor, that’s the way we all should be.

Now the trick to helping Linda keep her space is to go there and go there a lot. Have a cup of coffee and support her and other independent book stores around the state, this is about keeping New England, New England, small town U.S.A.

Books & Company is a gem and I always find the perfect card or gift for a friend! Plus, the owner is a peach! The book selection is great and I often get a recent best seller for way less than in a regular bookstore. 🙂
