A Fountain In Madison, CT For Eileen Johnson

Eileen Johnson danced her way through life with her husband, Gunnar. For more than 40 years they owned a dance studio, Gunnar Johnson Select School of Dancing in Madison, Connecticut. They taught others how to” trip the light fantastic.” A more graceful in love couple you’ve never seen. Half of that dance couple passed into the next life on January 23, 2013 leaving her partner behind. They were kind and gentle and cared deeply for their shoreline Connecticut town and did a lot to help make it special. I knew this couple and they were more than special.

Eileen and Gunnar were Directors of the Dance Educators of America and earned the title of Harvest Moon Ball Champions. Eileen has served on the Madison Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors for over 12 years. It is largely because of their guidance and tenaciousness that Madison is such a beautiful town. She was a tireless volunteer for the Chamber and the town that she loved so much. Eileen and Gunnar, as a duo, received both Citizen of the Year and Member of the Year from the Madison Chamber of Commerce. She was a volunteer reader for the Chamber’s Read Aloud program for TWO classrooms every year for 15 years, and in 2012, Eileen received the Madison Jaycees Distinguished Service Lifetime Achievement Award.

In Eileen’s honor, a fountain was dedicated in her town on June 24th, 2014, a graceful beautiful fountain signifying  her grace on a dance floor. Many were in attendance along with her husband, Gunnar.

Madison remembers her and so will others who pass by Tuxis Pond, it’s a place she cared about and helped beautify.
