Elm Shakespeare Company At Edgerton Park~ Aug 14-31

The Elm Shakespeare Company is bringing William Shakespeare’s most popular play to Edgerton
Park in New Haven this summer. No, it’s not Hamlet, Romeo & Juliet, or anything produced on Broadway lately.
Here’s a hint: it is seldom performed today but was a blockbuster hit during Shakespeare’s lifetime.
The Elm Shakespeare Company presents Pericles for its 19th season of Free Shakespeare in the Park from
August 14-31 at 8pm at Edgerton Park in New Haven. Artistic Director James Andreassi will infuse the epic
journey of Prince Pericles with the essence of the Caribbean, from the thrill of Trinidadian Carnival to the social
unrest of the Haitian Revolution.
Over 30,000 from New Haven county and beyond will attend this professional, Equity production. The Elm
Shakespeare Company is the largest outdoor theatre dedicated to the work of William Shakespeare in
performance and education in Connecticut. Major support of the Elm Shakespeare Company’s 19th season
provided by Whitney Center and Webster Bank.
The professional cast includes Paul Pryce, a Trinidad native who stole the show as Marcus Antonius in Elm
Shakespeare’s production of Julius Caesar last summer, as Pericles, Associate Artistic Director Raphael
Massie, who most recently appeared opposite Mayor Harp in The Balcony Scene, as Simonides, Yale School of
Drama graduate students Prima Cruz as Marina and Sean Patrick Higgins as Lysimachus, and New Haven
actress Gracie Brown-Keirstead as Gower.
Award-winning designers for this production include set designer Vladimir Shpitalnik, sound designer Nathan
Roberts, costume designer Elizabeth Bolster, and lighting designer Jamie Burnett. Twelve of the best high school
students in the New Haven region were hand selected in a competitive process to join the Company on stage
and behind the scenes as Elm Scholar Apprentices, the Elm Shakespeare Company’s premier pre-professional
training program.
