A Madison Thrift Shop That Gives Back

Screen Shot 2015-02-11 at 2.07.56 PMI am a sucker for tag and garage sales, thrift shops, antique shows, basements, attics, anywhere you can uncover treasures, especially when a purchase gives back.

Such is the case with Act II Thrift Shop in Madison, Connecticut. It’s located at 170 Boston Post Road. Hours of operation  are Tuesday thru Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

When you buy there, at a great price, you help talented minority students reach their potential when they would not have such a chance.

Act II helps to fund a program called “A Better Chance.” It started in 1963 at Dartmouth College and is one of the oldest national organizations of its kind. Over the years, I have donated to the store, and then of course bought at the store, when I find a this or a that.  It’s all about giving back folks, and we need to think about that 24-7 especially in these tough economic times.

What will you find at Act II? On the day I popped in there was a set of bone china and 4 needlepoint chairs. The price of each chair, wait for it, $30.00.

There is more than 2200 square feet of shopping lusciousness here. There are books and games and tapes and hats and jewelry and children’s toys and yarn and clothing for your family.

Make this a new stop for donations and shopping, you’ll be helping a teen reach their true potential.

Do you take donations? I live in Stamford and will be moving soon so I’d like to get rid of a lot of things.
