On March 5th, 2015 at the Jorgenson Center at UCONN there was a world premiere concert.  “A Child’s Requiem” was written by one of the most respected choral composers in America….Conductor, composer, Lehigh University Professor, Steven Sametz.

The 45 minute piece is dedicated to Newtown and Sandy Hook and to the loss of 20 children and six adults at the elementary school on December 14th of 2012.. The inspiration came from hundreds of writings and stories from young children all over America who told their tales of loss. Sametz told me he felt great pressure to get this right.

Sametz grew up in Westport, he was commissioned for this work and he hopes it will bring healing thru art.

***It premiered under the direction of Associate Professor of Music and Director of Choral Studies at the University of Connecticut, Jamie Spillane, DMA.
