“Being a part of this year’s Closer to Free Ride, and helping to support the Smilow Cancer Hospital, has been a longtime goal of ours,” comments Deep River Snacks Founder and CEO Jim Goldberg. “Potato sack racing is, of course, very appropriate for Deep River Snacks, but it actually represents something even more important to our company.”

Goldberg recalls that the company’s first potato sack race was set-up “virtually overnight” in 2010 to support Caroline O’Brien, an 11 girl who suffered from an inoperable brain tumor. Jim, his wife Jeannie, and the local community came together to create an event to celebrate this special young lady.

“We will be (potato sack) racing in honor of Caroline, and all of the brave individuals battling cancer,” comments Goldberg. “Our hope is that as Deep River Snacks grows, our race program also continues to evolve as a resource to help our other charity partners raise money while providing a really fun event for their local communities.”

Deep River Snacks supports many charities, promoting these partnerships on the back of each of its bags of Kettle Cooked Potato Chips, Tortilla Chips, Popcorn, Baked Crisps and new Classic Style Potato Chips. In 2014, the company donated 14% of its net profits to charity.
