unspecified
Jahana Hayes of Connecticut is the 2016 National Teacher of the Year. She is a history teacher at John F. Kennedy High School in Waterbury. To listen to her talk about being a history teacher. Hayes who grew up in a housing project in Waterbury, became a teenaged Mom, but even with a child, with the help of her family she persevered and got a college education. That hard work and compassion for her students as lead to the highest of honors. She received her crystal apple award after introducing the President of the United States at the White House.  Hayes will not teach in the next year but instead will travel the world to make her impact on education globally.
