American St. Nick- A True Story In War Time
With Veteran’s Day coming up on Friday, author, Peter Lions goes back in time and tells the story of a group of American GI’s who brought Christmas to the tiny town of Wiltz, Luxembourg during the darkest days of World War Two…right before the Battle of the Bulge. Canton, Connecticut’s Peter Lion revives the true story of Richard Brookins, now 94, in his book “The American St. Nick.”
Brookins and his men saw to it that the children got a little bit of christmas that year despite what little they had then under Nazi Control. A documentary was also released around the heartwarming story. Lion found the actual footage of that December 5th day nearly 72 years ago. To this day, the American Saint Nick remains a hero in that town.
