Connecticut’s Everyday Heroes, Volunteer Firefighters

We always expect them to be there for us, volunteer firefighters. But what if they weren’t? There are 26-thousand volunteer firefighters in Connecticut among the more than 300 fire departments, that’s 83-percent. Recruiting for these “Everyday Heroes” is crucial and is underway year-round as many towns are reaching critical lows in their departments. Former Killingworth Fire Chief, Fred Dudek, who still is a volunteer firefighter, is still on the job after 45-years.
