« Dr. Bob Rauch Robert S. Rauch, D.D. S., age 62, of Orange passed away peacefully with his family by his side on February 1, 2013 at Yale’s Smilow Cancer Center after a seven and a half year-long battle with cancer. “Dr. Bob” was born in Brooklyn, NY, on Sept. 16, 1950 to the late Herman and Helen Rauch, and his Brooklyn pride remained with him throughout his lifetime. He graduated from the University of Bridgeport in 1972 and Georgetown Dental School in 1976. He has practiced in the Milford community for over 37 years. He and his wife, Diana, whom he met serendipitously during his early years in practice, founded a family dental practice on Cherry Street, Milford. He considered his office staff and dental patients family and treated all who visited his practice to stellar dental care and perhaps a magic trick or two. His practice will continue to run, with strong dentists and eventually his son, Michael. Dr. Rauch did not allow his cancer diagnosis to interfere with his infectious enthusiasm for life and adventure. Dr. Rauch enjoyed skiing with his family and the Boneheads, biking with Team Orange, vacationing with friends and the 4Rs, coaching soccer, softball, t-ball and baseball, camping and hiking. He was also a former member of the Orange board of education, a Cub Scout leader, a public speaker for many Relays for Life and for dental health awareness locally and nationally and a TV personality with “Taking the Mystery Out of Medicine.” A past president of the Milford Dental Society, Dr. Rauch was also a member of the Pierre Fauchard Society. Dr. Rauch published multiple books, including “Spiritual Signs and Lessons of a Survivor,” books one and two, chronicling his life and fight against cancer. Dr. Rauch is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Diana, his children, Laurén, Michael and Bryan, his mother-in-law, Bette Zuraw, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, father-in-law, brother-in-law and nephew. Friends and family may call on Sunday, February 3, 2013 from 12 to 4 pm at the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad St, Milford, CT 06460 where a prayer service will be held at 3:30 pm. A Celebration of Life will be held at Grassy Hill Country Club 44 Clark Lane, Orange on Monday, February 4, 2013 from 5 to 9 pm. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Closer to Free organization (Smilow Cancer Center) in Dr. Rauch’s memory.
