Ann Nyberg’s Toy Closet at Yale-New Haven Hospital

Childhood is fragile and a hospital stay can be scary and lonely. The Toy Closet Program is dedicated to helping. I started this program in 1993 for all children who would enter the hospital with the enormous help of the hospital auxiliary and Marjan Wackers. Since then, the program has proven to be an enduring success. It has wide-ranging support from the hospital staff and the generosity of civic and service organizations, school and university groups, local businesses and benefits from numerous individual and family donation provide toys to pediatric patients receiving care. Toys are given out 365 days a year. Our goal is to help provide kids of all ages with comfort, enjoyment and a reason to be happy. To date we have given out hundreds of thousands of toys, have dedicated play rooms for children, have helped to build a playground in New Haven and on and on and on. I have three daughters, it is my hope that they will continue to think of others and help in any way they can. When a child is sick they need the best adults can give them.
